Multimedia jobs are interesting careers to venture into. It is a job where we show others the world as we imagine it. Television programs and movies are filled with incredible stories created only in our dreams and minds. Trips, vistas, and people from worlds across galaxies of make-believe are all creations of multimedia artists. With the emergence of new technologies, a career in multimedia allows you to work in various channels of communication such as film, video game design, web design, animation, and advertising. The key piece equipment used by multimedia artists is the computer. They use technology to produce visually impressive, characters, special effects, and landscapes.

In general, multimedia artists start off doing simple tasks at a design or production company. Over their years of service working with these companies, they learn enough to gradually move on to higher work levels and greater responsibilities. The job responsibilities of a multimedia artist vary based on one’s specialization. Examples of specialization are: 1) Bringing lifelike characteristics to images, 2) Planning, development, and scripting of animated narrative sequences, 3) Designing, animating, and adding special effects using specialized computer equipment, 4) Designing and developing two and three dimensional objects, 5) Creating storyboards, 6) Illustrating a process through the use of modeling programs, and 7) Creating computer artwork, web pages, technical illustrations, multimedia presentations, and many more. Multimedia jobs allow artists to work on flexible schedules but when there are big projects artists have to work extra long hours.

What are the educational requirements to earn multimedia jobs? Aside from talent and technical skills, careers in multimedia require a bachelor’s degree. This is due to the technical and communication expertise needed for these positions. Some courses that are commonly accepted in multimedia jobs are: 1) Information technology or computer science, 2) graphic design, 3) journalism, and 4) visual art. However, there are some who, having just completed a two-year degree program or a one-year certificate program, are employed in technical and assistant positions. Then as they progress in experience with the company, they go into further training to gain more knowledge. Graphic designers and professionals in this job often attend short-term classes or trainings to update themselves with new trends and development in the rapidly changing industry.

There are various types of multimedia jobs. Animation is usually categorized into 2D and 3D animation. Computer-generated animation generally used in motion pictures to add special effects. Web designers employ audio, video, animation, and photos, to create websites, portals, and weblogs. They are knowledgeable about various web languages like HTML, CSS, Java, and also skilled in designing and image editing software like Photoshop. Multimedia journalism jobs on the other hand are tasked with creating content rather than design and function. Their job includes writing text reports for online version of newspapers, magazines, and other websites. They also do filming, editing, and publishing of rich media such as video reports, audio reports, and podcasts.
